- Always plan your move at least 4 weeks in advance.
- Call General Moving Company and schedule your move.
- Get with your child or children’s school to arrange transfer of all records.
- Be sure to transfer all personal insurance records to your new location
- Make sure you transfer theft, fire and all other personal-property insurance home protects the new home.
- Plan to use most of the food items one week prior to your move.
- Always check and clear any tax assessments.
- Movers can’t move flammables, ammunition, or propane tanks. It’s best to make other arrangements for those items.
- Make sure to get a change of address form from the post office. Be sure to include everyone in the household.
- Transfer or close all charge accounts.
- Transfer all bank accounts to your new city. Also, have the local credit bureau to transfer your records.
- Arrange to have all cable or satellite services disconnected and set up a date for reinstallation at new location if services will be restored.
- Arrange to have either a certified check made out to General Moving Company or cash ready to pay driver.
- Set aside all items that you’ll take in your car such as maps, games, snacks, flashlight, medicines, important papers, clothing incase there is a delay in your delivery.
- Drain water from all garden hoses.
- Start packing suitcases.
- Drain gasoline from all lawn care items such as mower, trimmers, clippers, etc.
- Defrost, clean and dry refrigerators and freezers.
- Finish packing all suitcases.
